TOMORROW X TOGETHER The Dream Chapter: MAGIC: Platform 9¾ and the First Full-Length Album

What if you could leave everything behind from a hidden train platform? The lead single on TXT’s first full-length album is called 9 and Three Quarters (Run Away). Its Korean title is even clearer: 9와 4분의 3 승강장에서 너를 기다려, “Waiting for you at platform 9¾.” It sets the tone for an album about running off on adventures with friends.

The story: magical adventures

The Dream Chapter: MAGIC is the second part of The Dream Chapter, after the debut STAR. BIGHIT sums up the difference: STAR was about the “happiness and excitement of meeting that special someone.” MAGIC tells the story of “magical adventures” with “friends who are different, yet alike.” Official album introduction

Through these adventures, BIGHIT says, the boys go through change, confusion and exploding emotions as they move into adolescence.

Eight songs, with notes from BIGHIT

# Song Length What BIGHIT says
1 New Rules 2:55 The desire to make your own rules for the world
2 9 and Three Quarters (Run Away) 3:32 The lead single
3 Roller Coaster 3:34 A scary but exciting moment, like riding a roller coaster
4 Poppin’ Star 3:13 —
5 Can’t We Just Leave The Monster Alive? 3:51 —
6 Magic Island 3:13 —
7 20cm 3:37 —
8 Angel Or Devil 3:52 Two inner voices that never stop fighting

Track order, lengths and notes: official discography page

The album opens with a song about making your own rules. It ends with a song about the two voices in your head. That arc, from wanting freedom to arguing with yourself, fits BIGHIT’s description of the confusion of growing up.

Run Away: the lead single

The Run Away video went up on HYBE LABELS on October 21, 2019 at 6 p.m. KST. It was directed by Oui Kim (OUI) and Yongseok Choi (Lumpens). Oui Kim had also directed TXT’s debut video, CROWN.

Our take: The platform 9¾ reference points to a world you can only reach if you believe in it, and that suits a chapter called “Dream.” Watch the video for the moment the members break away from their everyday lives.

Three videos in six weeks

MAGIC had three official videos. The last two each came with individual member teasers first, one for each of the five members.

“Should we run away?”

The MAGIC concept trailer ends with a question. According to Weverse Magazine, HYBE’s own magazine, HUENINGKAI looks into the camera and asks, “Should we run away?” before following the other members, who have already gone through a door. Weverse Magazine: The Name Chapter trailer review

The magazine pointed out that the scene came back three years later. In the concept trailer for The Name Chapter, HUENINGKAI walks out through a door again, but this time he goes first. Running away, and whether to do it, became one of the longest-running threads in TXT’s story. It returns in songs like LO$ER=LO♡ER and Deja Vu.

Our take: Watch the MAGIC concept trailer before Run Away if you can. It’s the first time the idea of escaping appears so directly.
