RESCENE for Beginners: Five Members, a New Scent Every Album

Most K-pop groups have a color or a concept. RESCENE have a scent. Their name mixes scene and scent, and every album comes with a new smell, from flowers to sea ambergris to clean soap. The idea comes from a real psychological effect: a scent can bring a memory flooding back.

Here’s who RESCENE are, the story of their scents so far, and three ways to start, just in time for their fourth mini album, PULSE, on November 3.

Who are RESCENE?

RESCENE (리센느) are a five-member girl group from THE MUZE Entertainment: WONI, MINAMI, LIV, MAY and ZENA. THE MUZE: RESCENE

According to THE MUZE:

  • The name RESCENE combines scene and scent. Just as a scent can bring back a past scene, their music aims to paint vivid scenes in listeners’ minds.
  • Their inspiration is the Proust effect, the idea that scents can bring back memories.
  • Their two keywords are “scent” and “music.” Each album presents a different scent as they search for one that’s uniquely theirs.
  • Their goal is to leave a musical scent that stays in listeners’ hearts for a long time.

A scent for every album

Re:Scene March 26, 2024 Floral. YoYo invites you in at the edge of dream and reality; UhUh is the “Burning Flower.”
SCENEDROME August 27, 2024 Ambergris. The members become Gen Z mermaids who come to the city to find lost ambergris.
Glow Up February 5, 2025 Soap. Growing up in style, confidence and skill, as “me” and as “us.”

After Glow Up, RESCENE’s official channel shows the second single album Dearest (July 2025), the third mini album lip bomb (November 2025), the first digital single Runaway (April 2026), and now the fourth mini album PULSE (November 3, 2026).

Our take: Following RESCENE album by album is like walking through a perfume shop. Each release has its own note, and the fun is guessing what the next one will be.

Five things to notice

  1. Ambergris is a strange choice, on purpose. THE MUZE points out that it doesn’t smell good on its own but makes other scents stronger. It’s a metaphor for a team. SCENEDROME introduction
  2. A song about their own concept. One song on Glow Up has lyrics about the Proust effect, the idea behind the group’s name. Glow Up introduction
  3. A famous band on bass and drums. THE MUZE says the pop band Dirty Loops played on a Glow Up track.
