NewJeans didn’t introduce themselves with a long run of teasers. They introduced themselves with music videos. Within four days in July 2022, three songs from their debut EP had official videos on YouTube. One of those songs came in several versions. The music itself followed about a week later.
Here’s how New Jeans, the group’s first EP, was rolled out, and how to explore its four songs.
Four songs, one week of videos
All times are in Korean time (KST), based on the official upload dates on the HYBE LABELS channel.

By the time the last song got its video, every track on the EP had one. The hashtag on these early videos was #WeareNewJeans.
Three title songs

Director credits come from each official video’s description. All four list MIN HEE JIN as producer, with an ADOR copyright line.
So there’s no single “main” song to find first. Each of the three title songs had its own video, and Hurt got one too.
Hype Boy: one song, many videos
Hype Boy had the most official videos of any song on the EP:
- Hype Boy (Intro) came first. Its description says the video is easier to watch on the YouTube app.
- Several versions centered on different members went up the same day.

How the debut traveled
Weverse Magazine, HYBE’s own magazine, tracked how the debut songs did abroad. By September 2022, Attention and Hype Boy had reached No. 54 and No. 52 on the Billboard Global 200, and both had been in Spotify’s global top 80. Weverse Magazine: NewJeans on the Hot 100
The magazine also noted that after the winter release of OMG, Hype Boy climbed back up the Global 200 to No. 60, and Attention returned to the chart. The debut songs kept finding new listeners months later.
One EP, two dates
You may see two dates for this release, and both are official:
- August 1, 2022: NewJeans’ official Japan site lists the EP under this Korean release date. It matches the day the Cookie video went up. Japan official discography
- August 8, 2022: the official Weverse Shop lists this as the release date for the physical album.
Neither page explains the difference. If you’re buying a physical copy, go by the date on your store’s listing.

How to listen for the first time
- Start with Attention. It was the first video the world saw from NewJeans.
- Then play the EP in order. Four songs, from Attention to Hurt.
- Go back for Hype Boy. Watch the Intro, then one of the Performance versions.
- Finish with Cookie’s video. It came out with the music, so it closes the rollout.
