NewJeans for Beginners: A Group That Lets the Videos Do the Talking
- Category: Starter guide
- Artist: NewJeans
KPOP NO1 Editorial · Sources checked October 22, 2026
Most K-pop groups explain themselves with concept photos, teaser schedules and long announcements. NewJeans mostly let their music videos do it. Their first video arrived in July 2022. Within four days, three songs from their debut EP had official videos, and one of them had several versions. Over the next two years, every song on their four Korean releases appeared in an official video.
This guide follows that trail: the members, four releases in order, NewJeans’ big year in Japan, and three ways to start.
Who are NewJeans?
NewJeans are a girl group from ADOR. Their official music videos are published on the HYBE LABELS YouTube channel, each with an ADOR copyright line. Their global official fan club is called Bunnies. Japan official site
Their first EP, New Jeans, came out in 2022. The Japan official site lists its Korean release as August 1, 2022, and the Weverse Shop lists the physical album on August 8. Weverse Shop listing

The story in four releases
1. New Jeans (2022): the debut, video by video
The first official NewJeans video, Attention, went up on HYBE LABELS on July 22, 2022 (KST). Hype Boy followed the next day, first as an intro video and then in several versions centered on different members. Hurt came on July 25, and Cookie on August 1. The Weverse Shop lists not one but three title songs: Attention, Hype Boy and Cookie. Read the New Jeans guide
2. OMG (January 2023): winter into the new year
The Ditto videos, side A and side B, came out on December 19, 2022, tagged #NewJeans_of_Winter. The title song OMG followed on January 2, 2023, tagged #Year_of_NewJeans. On the single, OMG is track 1 and Ditto is track 2. Read the OMG guide
3. Get Up (July 2023): every song on screen
The second EP had six songs, and all six appear in official videos released over three weeks. The New Jeans video featured The Powerpuff Girls, the ETA video was shot entirely on iPhone 14 Pro, and Super Shy came with the #ImSuperShy challenge. Read the Get Up guide
4. How Sweet (May 2024): Bubble Gum first
Bubble Gum became a Japanese morning-TV theme song and a commercial soundtrack in April 2024, before its video came out. The title song How Sweet followed on May 24. Read the How Sweet guide
The U.S. chapter
Weverse Magazine, HYBE’s own magazine, tracked NewJeans’ fast rise in the U.S.:
- January 2023: Ditto became their first song on the Billboard Hot 100, at No. 96. OMG followed. Weverse Magazine: NewJeans on the Hot 100
- July 2023: Super Shy debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Global 200, and Get Up went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
- August 3, 2023: a main-stage set at Lollapalooza in Chicago. Weverse Magazine: Lollapalooza and Billboard
- End of 2023: Super Shy made year-end lists from NME, The Guardian, Rolling Stone and Pitchfork. Weverse Magazine: 2023 in the international press
The Japan chapter
NewJeans’ official Japan site shows how big 2023 and 2024 were there:
- December 31, 2023: NewJeans appeared on NHK’s New Year’s Eve music show, the 74th Kohaku Uta Gassen. The site announced it as a surprise appearance two days earlier. Japan official news
- April 2024: Bubble Gum became the theme song of Fuji TV’s Mezamashi 8 and the soundtrack to Kao Essential’s commercials.
- June 2024: the single Supernatural, with Right Now, came out on June 21 in Korea and June 22 in Japan. Its Japan editions included versions labeled “NJ X MURAKAMI.” Japan pre-order news
- June 26–27, 2024: NewJeans Fan Meeting ‘Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome’, the group’s first solo concert in Japan. The official site said NewJeans reached Tokyo Dome faster than any overseas artist before them. Japan official news
- November 2024: NewJeans received an Excellent Work Award at the 66th Japan Record Awards. Japan official news
Five things to notice
- Videos come before releases. Attention, Ditto, Super Shy and Bubble Gum all went up before the release they belonged to.
- Some songs come in pairs. Ditto and Cool With You each got a side A and side B video, like the two sides of a record.
- One song, many cuts. Hype Boy has an intro, several member-centered versions and two Performance versions.
- Brand collaborations show up in the credits. The Powerpuff Girls (New Jeans), Apple (ETA) and Coke Studio (How Sweet) are all named in the official video descriptions.
- A small group of directors. The official videos repeatedly credit Heewon Shin, Dongle Shin, Wooseok Shin and Youngeum Lee as directors, with MIN HEE JIN listed as producer.
Our take: The best way into NewJeans is through YouTube. The official videos tell you the order things happened in. Follow them, and the four releases make sense quickly.
Three ways to start
Short on time? Watch one video from each release.
| Release | Video | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| New Jeans (2022) | Attention | New Jeans |
| OMG (2023) | Ditto (side A) | OMG |
| Get Up (2023) | Super Shy | Get Up |
| How Sweet (2024) | Bubble Gum | How Sweet |
Want the full picture? Follow the releases in order. Start with New Jeans and work forward. Each guide has a table of every official video and when it came out.
Know them from Japan? Start with How Sweet. Bubble Gum is the song Japanese TV audiences heard every morning in spring 2024. From there, go back to Get Up and the earlier releases.
Quick answers for new fans
Why do I see two release dates for the first EP? The Japan official site lists August 1, 2022 for the Korean release. The Weverse Shop lists August 8, 2022 for the physical album. Both are official listings.
Where are the official videos? On the HYBE LABELS YouTube channel. Each one credits ADOR.
What does “title song” mean here? It’s the song a release is built around. New Jeans is unusual because the Weverse Shop lists three of them.
Who are Bunnies? NewJeans’ fans. The official fan club is called the NewJeans Global Official Fanclub “Bunnies.”
