“If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” aespa built their second full-length album around that old saying, and turned it into the start of a new chapter of their story. In the video, a “lemon bug” rolls into aespa’s parallel world and cracks it open. Before that, the pre-release song brought in a surprise guest: G-DRAGON.
Two years after Armageddon
SM announced LEMONADE, aespa’s second full-length album, on April 20, 2026. It came about two years after Armageddon. SM said it continues aespa’s story with a sturdier narrative and more musical growth. SM announcement
SM also recapped what had happened in between: grand prizes at award shows in Korea and abroad, and Group of the Year at Billboard Women in Music 2025.
| Date (KST) | What came out |
|---|---|
| May 11, 2026, 6 p.m. | WDA (Whole Different Animal) (Feat. G-DRAGON), the pre-release |
| May 29, 2026, 1 p.m. | LEMONADE and the title-track video |
A crack in aespa’s world
The teasers started with damage. The schedule poster, posted April 21, showed a sky split open and a road broken by a crash-landed car. SM: schedule poster A week later, new teasers showed a “singularity” appearing in the backgrounds of earlier albums, Savage, MY WORLD, Armageddon and Whiplash, as if aespa’s past worlds were mixing together.
The promotion site, aespa.com, turned that into a game: visitors could smash the world with a hammer and throw lemons to open the crack, the P.O.S, themselves. SM: P.O.S teasers
Our take: SM’s headline called it the P.O.S “opened again.” Breaking aespa’s old album worlds to reopen it is a clear signal that this is a new season.
WDA: with G-DRAGON
WDA (Whole Different Animal) is a hip-hop-based dance song with a grand synth bass and a heavy hook, according to SM. Its lyrics about aespa’s growth announce a new chapter of their world. G-DRAGON features on it and helped write his own rap parts. SM: WDA
SM described the video’s story: in an age when it’s no longer possible to prove what’s real, beings with aespa’s faces, who are clearly not aespa, appear. aespa finally break through the crack and prove who they are. SM links this to ae-aespa, the virtual selves at the center of aespa’s story since their debut. SM: WDA release
The dance is built on hip-hop moves and groove. SM says the chorus keeps the movements simple, and the verses and outro show each member’s character. SM: WDA stages WDA went on to win first place on KBS’s Music Bank on June 5.
LEMONADE: the title track
SM describes LEMONADE as an electronic dance song with an addictive, trendy synth bass. The lyrics use the saying about lemons to hint at a new season of aespa’s story, with a positive message: whatever hardship comes, turn it into an opportunity. SM: release day
In the video, a “lemon bug” rolls into aespa’s parallel world. The crack it causes opens the P.O.S, a portal, and the members move through it to transform a dark world in their own way.
The point move is easy to spot: in the repeated line about making lemonade, the members mime squeezing a lemon.
SM framed the two title tracks as opposites. WDA came with dark teasers and a heavy hip-hop performance, while LEMONADE shows “a different aespa” with a twist. SM: two sides The music video teaser, on May 28, showed the members in a playful, kitschy mood. SM: MV teaser
aespa told SM their goal: just as the album’s motto says to squeeze life’s lemons into delicious lemonade, they hope everyone who hears their music gets good energy from it.

Track order: aespa official Japan discography · Song notes: SM on the dance songs, SM on the emotional arc
SM counts 11 tracks in some announcements, because the digital album adds LEMONADE (Feat. Becky G), with the Latin pop star’s rap. The official Japan discography lists the ten songs above. SM: Becky G and Ty Dolla $ign
The highlight medley, released May 25, played every song in a row: each time a blender switched on, the next track started. SM: highlight medley
Our take: SM describes the album’s emotions as moving from freedom to self-defense, desire and finally connection, ending on ’Til We Die. That’s a more personal story than aespa’s early KWANGYA battles, even as the world-building continues.

A new tour: SYNK : COMPLaeXITY
The album came with a new world tour, SYNK : COMPLaeXITY, starting at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on August 7–8, 2026. SM said it would be built around the keyword “CRACK”. Its trailer showed a strange crack forming in aespa’s real world and the P.O.S opening, with scenes from Supernova, Whiplash, Drama and Girls hidden as Easter eggs. SM: new tour
Before that, the previous tour’s Japan dome shows drew 170,000 fans: 76,000 at Kyocera Dome and 94,000 at Tokyo Dome.
